My late mum's engagement ring was three diamonds on a gold band. It was her only piece of proper jewellery and always worn whenever she left the house. One diamond had been lost and the ring was tiny making it unwearable. My daughter had been given the ring years ago. She asked if I'd mind her having the stones set in a new ring so she could wear it. I had absolutely no idea she was having one stone set in a ring for herself and the other on a necklace for me.
