@365projectorgchristine It can be fascinating, can’t it. A lifetime of stories and connections condensed into as many words as can be written on a slab of stone. It leaves me so curious, all these people with entire lives of loves, dreams, desires, dislikes, fears. So many experiences, so much knowledge, all so physically close (technically), but forever out of reach…
I can remember my Dad pottering around churchyards when I was young. At the time I never understood the appeal, but now I find myself drawn to them if I ever have a few hours in a new place with no particular goal.
I love wandering around foreign cemeteries too. I read a line somewhere once, something along the lines that you can tell a lot about a culture from the way they look after their dead. Maybe not ‘a lot’, but it is certainly interesting seeing the differences around the world.
