Heathrow Tower by plebster

Heathrow Tower

Became operational in 2007.

It's not the prettiest building, by any means, but it's quite elegant and the engineering behind it is fascinating.
When they built it, they didn't want to disrupt operations at the airport so they moved all the parts overnight, starting with the top. They then jacked it up a bit at a time to fit in sections of the 'stem'.
It has little panels sticking out on the central support to create vortices which reduce vibration, and the massive cables give it stiffness.
