I feel like I've been such a bad 365er :( With the start of paediatrics and epically-long lecture days and a 1-hour commute each way (30 mins train plus 30 mins walking) I just haven't been able to do many fun photo things.

On the bright side, tomorrow I have lectures until 12:30pm, and then an "ethics forum" at 3:30-5pm, which I am totally not going to because while it'd be interesting, I doubt it'd be of any use for exams. xD So I have a half day! ... the other half of which I shall totally use to catch up on study. Yes. Totally.

I took this photo in my backyard this afternoon, and it required me crouching on the ground and tilting my head/body/camera at weird angles. And of course my dog (read: 50kg German shepherd) found it fascinating that I was at his level and so he spent the whole time sniffing and headbutting me and slobbering everywhere. Good times.
ah been there done that! I love the angle and focus on this one!

so you're studying medicine?is it hard?I also thought of this one year ago,but I'm afraid it's gonna be to hard and I'm gonna study too many years:(

beautiful focus:)

@michellina It is really difficult - you have to learn a LOT. The first two years are very content based. You basically go through all the systems of the body and what can go wrong - so you need to learn diseases that are common and also diseases that are rare but life-threatening (so you want to rule those out when assessing a patient). Very difficult to fit all that information into your brain! Then the next two years are more hands on - you do more procedural skills and it's less about the textbooks and more about real-life situations.

I'm probably not the best person to talk to about this because I'm actually strongly thinking about choosing a different path once I graduate. From what I've seen during my work at hospital, the lifestyle of a young doctor is generally pretty terrible - the money is okay but the hours are long and the breaks are few and the work is very stressful, and on top of that you have to sit further exams so that you can become qualified. To me at this point, the lifestyle factors outweigh my motivation to actually practice medicine. I started a medical degree with a different idea in my head of what it was going to be like, and because I really enjoy learning and problem-solving, and because I find the human body really interesting. But my impression has been that a lot of medicine has become quite inundated in "protocols" - steps you just go through again and again with each patient, things you just have to know by heart, and I feel like the true problem-solving is left up to the most senior doctors, because they actually have the experience and know what they are doing.

@pocketmouse "I'm probably not the best person to talk to about this because I'm actually strongly thinking about choosing a different path once I graduate." after studying so many years you want to choose sth different?:(

Nice one! Good thing you still spend quality time taking some photos.
October 17th, 2011
@michellina Yeah... I guess it's something you really have to get in there and experience before you can decide whether it's something you want to do. At least that's been my impression of it. I know several people who have stopped the course to think about what they want to do - they are currently taking a year off and may or may not come back. I don't think that people should think that, once they choose one path of career or study, they are locked to that path for the rest of their lives. Just figure out what you want out of life, and go for it. :)
