Did you use the flash for this? I would try it with secondary,artificial light! You would be surprised what difference it makes! Particularly with a nice set of pictures like this!
@maggiemae I didn't use any flash - the vignette-like appearance was caused by the downlights on the ceiling; one of them is purposefully angled onto the paintings to create a spotlight-like effect - I wanted to preserve that, hence why I didn't supplement the photo with other light sources :)
@maggiemae Also that (annoying) shadow on the left is being cast by a support beam that happens to be in the middle of the room! Actually quite a beautiful piece of timber, suits the room really well, just mildly inconvenient when taking photos of the wall using only the downlights. xD
