Chris called me while driving home from work, sounding excited; he asked how I felt about going into one of our neighbouring cities with him when he got home, because there was something he wanted to show me. He said he didn't get a great look at it because he had just driven past, but there was a really unusual train stopped on the tracks in the middle of the city and he was hoping we could go back together really quickly so I could see it too. We rushed back to Guelph as soon as he picked me up, and we saw this locomotive! It's a restored engine, built in 1940, that was used mostly for running troops and supplies to the Atlantic seaboard during the Second World War.
The funny part is, this locomotive is a static display. The rail company gave it to the city in 1967, and it's been there for years. It sits on a disconnected section of track in a park downtown. I guess Chris has never noticed it before (it's not like he goes by it daily, but he definitely passes by every so often)!
Anyway, it was very sweet that he wanted to take me back and show me the old train, and it was a fun little excursion even if it wasn't as time sensitive as he thought it was!
