American Kestrels are the smallest raptors in North America, and apparently the most common falcons on the continent as well. Neither Christopher nor I remember seeing one before but this colourful little fellow caught our attention when we passed by him sitting on a hydro line. I didn't get the greatest photos of him-- the males are only about 21.5cm (8.5 inches) in size and he was up quite high-- but it was exciting to see him so thought I'd choose one for a daily photo anyway :)
