Tree Swallow at the Beach by princessicajessica

Tree Swallow at the Beach

The Monday preceding May 24 is a holiday here in Canada. Officially, it is Victoria Day, a day when we celebrate the birthdays of Queen Victoria (who was Queen at the time of our Confederation) and our current Monarch. So it was officially the first Canadian celebration of King Charles's birthday, even though his actual birthday is almost six months away!

Anyway, unofficially it's the start of our summer. Chris and I went for a walk on one of the Lake Erie beaches in the evening. We collected beach glass, looked at fossils, and watched swallows. We saw Tree Swallows, Barn Swallows, and Bank Swallows. The last two are both officially Threatened Species here. I hadn't gotten great shots of them, but as we were walking back to the car for the drive home, this little fellow landed on a large rock very close by and graciously allowed us a bit of a photo shoot! I love the dark tealy colour of these guys' feathers.
Great capture
