Goose necked barnacles

Such an amazing sight, but sad to see them all expiring after being washed up on the sand. The wooden log that they had colonised out at sea was way too big for me to even consider pushing back out to sea - even if it wouldn't get washed straight back up.,
They are so fascinating to watch though and you can see that some of them are still open and sieving the water in the shallow puddle they are sitting in.

You mean there are real seafood yummies in these shells? They do look like what we would call tuatuas.. endemic to NZ and most delicious!

@maggiemae I don't think these are the same, they are the business end of the barnacle, not the bivalve that we also have and call a 'pippi'.
