This is one of the big carnival lorries ( ? ) I hope it is the name for it
They are made by voluntary workers ,often of a neighbourhood. group. They built every year a new one,( the old get sold in a auction to an other city )
Every lorry ( and act ) has a theme ( Criticize ) the locals know. This year there where 75 acts, from one person dressed up , Music bands , and to this big ones (19 ) There is big competition : Who did the best this year. ( different categories ) and winners.
amazing carnival float - that's huge and very detailed. Your carnival time is around the beginning of Lent (this year 23rd February) - we have carnivals in the West Country of England in September / October time - after the harvest is in.
Quite a wonderful shot of your float or praalwagen as someone called it earlier. So much going on at one time on this float, with the cook and the customer waiting at table; And the timing of your shot is perfect, to have captures the illusion of the chief picking up the building by the tip of the roof at the same time. Good shot!
It sounds like such a fun, wonderful carnival! The float is awesome. Very eye-catching. It must have taken a lot of dedication, imagination and work to make it. I am enjoying this series of photographs so much, Pyrrhula!
Beautiful and very imposing. In Malta we call these parades defiles' and the lorries carnival floats - from where the 'floats' name has come I don't know.
