A remain. The Shenge

A remain of a former inlet after reclaiming the land. The Shenge There are several spots like this . Now it has a nature use.
Best seen on black. If you look closer you can see the water level is as high, or higher, as the surrounding land

The water level does look very high. I guess it floods sometime or are there defences built in?

@pyrrhula Thank you very much for the information about my latest boat, Ferry. I think we call it 'clinker built' : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinker_%28boat_building%29

A great image. What % of The Nrtherlands is below sea level. I know you have some higher land in the East but most of Holland must be below sea level
March 19th, 2015
@kelly2 26 percent of the Netherlands lies below sea level and would be under water if there were no dikes or dunes.
Up to 59% of our country is prone to flooding.
There's also the country in which, although it is above sea level, but during storms and floods still below the shin.

Great engineering must have gone into building all those dikes and the dunes, Pyrrhula. So much interesting information on your country which is much better - accompanied by your pictures - than that we read in books.
