Sacrificed. by pyrrhula

Sacrificed.

The little village Oterdum was sacrifice due the expansion of the industrial area of the town Delfzijl in the 1960- 1980 th. The only remains after the demoloish was the graveyard. When the dike need an upgrade, by the law and savety rules, the graveyard becomes in danger. As the graves have rights they have removed and, after work done, replace the stones . There is also placed a statue of reminding the vilage and history . I remember that little vilage very well and the strugle of the inhabitants to . It`s scarifced to modern times.
Interessant verhaal, ik kende het nog niet. Mooie collage.

Dit is een bekend verhaal voor mij. Mijn man en ik zijn er verschillende keren geweest.

This seems to be the fate of smaller countries with limited space, that there is no room for old things and modern things side by side. Thank you for the story

Such a sad sacrifice for a small community - but that is progress - so they say!

Where the people paid out to start somewhere fresh? sad, but fortunately those are the times.

I think it's good that they respected the graveyard and placed a memorial there.

That is such a sad story. I think of all the families who had been there for many generations. How sad they must have been to lose their land.

Prachtige luchten. Vooral de hand tussen de windmolens vind ik mooi.

It reminds me of villages in the UK I learned about that were abandoned for different reasons - often the plague in the middle ages, or flooding or other things. Often their churches were the only things left standing (or the tops of the towers were the only things standing above the waters when the villages were flooded).

Interesting info and capture, it's sad that we loose these villages to modern planning, it's happened here too.
