Very interesting --I wonder what they keep down there !! would it be to store their coal when they had open fires ? Many pubs used to have these openings with doors so when the beers were delivered , the beer barrels were rolled down into such cellar !!
If this is a street entrance to a coal cellar or basement, I guess things were poured or rolled through the door and then accessed from inside the building. The door looks too small for a person to go through.
This is intriguing. It makes me want to go down and look. It looks like many cellars in older houses around here. Root cellars - a good place to store potatoes and canned goods.
It's very practical! I do have to say though that I might have trouble getting down those stairs! It's an interesting item to share with us and I suppose I'm not the only one who doesn't know about these!
cool capture
Wow!!
