Grevelingen 3

Can you imagine this will be in summer crowded with people seaching and collecting sea foods.
( You are allowed to collect a specific amount of it.)
I love the ridges in the sand!

Lovely shot. Great sand textures, light, depth, ... A fav. This place must look a lot different when there are a lot of people there.

I called the church (United Methodist Church in Hamilton) and was told that the area once had a large African American population, and the cemetery had been neglected, fallen into disrepair, and forgotten. The concrete slab with all the headstones on it was built about 30 years ago because many of the headstones had toppled over, and they couldn't tell where exactly they belonged. So all those headstones are on the slab in memory of the deceased they belong to, and as a way to honor them.

Sadly, after I posted what the church told me, a friend found the true story on a historical blog about slavery in the area, and it is very much uglier. If you are interested, you can read about it here -- https://historicwanderings.blogspot.com/2012/11/harmony-united-methodist-church.html

Much better without the people! Thanks very much for following me back. I read your profile and I too live in a small village. I'm a retired lady who's fallen back in love with photography. Just wish I knew what I was doing with the camera most of the time!
