History
The old village church was probably founded shortly after 1222 by the Cistercians who had a court in the form of an agricultural business (a grangia) in this area. The church was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to James Major . In the 15th century there was a presumably two-aisled stone hall church, which on 10 April 1589 was largely destroyed by a fire after a lightning strike . Only the southern aisle, the bell tower and the sacristy were spared [1] The southern aisle was rebuilt and used for the reformed worship. The church and tower were restored several times in 1860 and 1928. After theflood disaster of 1953 , the church had to be restored. In 1941 and 1969, repairs were carried out on the tower and in 1995 the burial chapel was restored. [2]
The church was protected as a national monument in 1966 .
