The Curch:
The Grote or Maria Magdalenakerk from 1423 is located in the center of the Zeeland city of Goes on a small square south of the Market opposite the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mary Magdalene .
It is not known whether there was a pastor at this place. Construction of the church in its present form began around 1470 with the choir. They wanted a three-aisled hall church , just like that of Gouda. Later, however, the basilica was changed and only the choir has the shape of a hall church. In 1506 the construction of the transept and the nave started. On September 11, 1618 , at about one o'clock, a fire broke out in the church because the shale decker (slate) Hans Henricxsz had failed to keep the fire he needed for soldering the gutters in the morning. In the same year they started rebuilding the church that was built in 1621was completed. The church remained in the late Gothic style. In the 17th century, a high ridge turret with a carillon was also built at the intersection of the church. The carillon has 47 bells, the heaviest of which weighs 965 kg .
Only the transept and the choir are still used as a church, the nave serves as an exhibition space. The interior is quite austere, like an ordinary protestant church. There is also a pulpit from 1594 and the church floor is covered with gravestones. The well-known Rev. Bernardus Smytegelt has delivered his sermons from here. After a restoration of the church, stained glass windows by Henk Schilling were placed in 1929 and 1930
A great pov to lead us to the magnificent windows and spires of the church. (And I like how we can see through the window to the window and sunlight on the other side) Fav
