A replica of a votive stone for Nehalennia from the Oosterschelde is mounted against the back wall of the temple. Above it is a glass screen with a seventeenth-century quote “Gens Batavorum Amici et Fratres Romani Imperii (The tribe of the Batavians are friends and brothers of the Roman Empire). Furthermore, a number of display cases can be viewed with finds from Roman times (on loan from the provincial archaeological services of Zeeland and South Holland). The floor is partly paved with slate from a medieval Christian church. In the center of it is a mosaic of original Roman roof tile shards. The paint for the temple walls has been specially developed according to a classic example and prepared and applied according to the traditional process. Under the roof, the architect has applied a band of basalt in the facade, which is repeated lower lying on the colonnade. These two bands give a nod to the material that used to be used to make many Zeeland seawalls.modern version of a statue of the goddess, made by Hans Zuidema. This is placed against the left inner wall.
How nice to learn about this through your interesting narrative.
