Waiting for the lake to thaw! by radiogirl

Waiting for the lake to thaw!

These sailboats are at the waters edge but it will be a while before they will be launched, probably late May. The fish huts that you see out on the frozen lake can remain there until the end of March, after which their owner's will be fined if not removed. Until that time there are trucks, cars and ski-doos driving on the lake, the ice is still a couple of feet in thickness. Last year a movie was produced here called "Skating to New York", they used our lake, towns, and local landmarks in our area, arenas and hockey teams. The movie wasn't great but it was interesting to see our local area in the movie.

Thank you for your comments on my project, it's greatly appreciated.
Cool shot of this boat on the edge of the frozen lake. Familiar name!

Like the combination of the snow and the sailboats - I can see why it might be late May before they find water! Neat shot.

@salza Thank you for your comment Sally, and although this is not my sailboat, I do have a boat named island girl.

Amazing that the ice remains that thick so long. I'll take the boat over the fish huts anyway! Won't be long!

Terrific shot and a very interesting story to go with it.

Excellent capture. It looks really cold there. I see you creatively have a boat named after you. Love it.

Your name looks great on the side of a sailboat. :) Amazing to think that the ice is that thick. It'd take some real effort to drill a fishing hole out there!
