Bearing It! by radiogirl

Bearing It!

This is a painting that I saw in the lobby of the mountain lodge where I am presently staying. The Bears have been on my mind all day while on hiking trails. Even through my husband was packing bear spray I still felt nervous out on these wilderness trails. But got back safely!! Bears have been a problem this year as there are no blueberries for them to eat in the bush. In previous years we have actual come across bears like these standing upright. They resemble images of "smokey the bear" without the hat. Rather intimidating!! NF-sooc-2015
Thank you so much for your comments and favs on my photos!!
Lovely shot of a really neat looking painting. I would be scared to death to see a bear like that in the woods

Fabulous arwork. I'm not sure that I would like to meet a bear in the wild!

I would love to photograph bears but agree they are scary!

Does bear spray actually work. How close to the bear do you have to get before it is effective?

Nice artwork! I agree with you..i'd be a little nervous!

They look so imposing, the thought of them grazing on bushes of blueberries seems rather odd. I have a vision of them with little wicker baskets tucked under their arms. Lovely shot BTW :)

That's a beautiful painting :) it's hard to imagine from here that you might meet them in the wild - sure would be a bit scary! I love sally's @hermann vision of the bears :) Fav for me as I love bears of all sorts!

@janiskay I was told it works up to 20 feet, supposedly. Hope I never have to use it!!!
Thanks for stopping by Janice.

It's wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

20 feet is closer to a bear then I want to be. I have been told that you should raise your arms up over your head to make you appear larger then you are and to make lots of noise so you appear menacing.

OH MY!! Love this shot, but happy to know they weren't seen on your trails.

This is a neat painting - and though I always say I'd love to see a bear, I guess what I'm really thinking is I'd love to see a wild bear from a safe spot (guess it doesn't work like that!) I love picturing them as Sally did.

It's a wildlife version of American Gothic! Neat way this painting is framed; I like the birch. Happy (and safe) trails to you.

Hope you didn't wear blue - opps my bad. Glad you made it back safely. We do seem to be hearing a lot about bears.

It is an interesting picture and a funny reminder of bears and needing to be careful while out. Stay safe and keep taking pictures. :)

Jeff and I came upon a mother and two cubs at the end of an exhausting hike. We were far enough away but I was still nervous. Then, all of sudden the cubs ran up the tree and I thought we were goners! But the mother paid us no mind thank goodness!!
