This hairy woodpecker is enjoying his sunflower seeds my husband just put out................he looks likes he is trying to stay warm by fluffing his feathers. I don't know how they survive in these temperatures, it has been high of -21C but feels like -28C and overnight it is -28C and feels like -33C and will be this cold for another week! Too cold for me!
Thanks for stopping by your comments and favs are always appreciate!
Just amazing how they stay warm, that feather fluff is the key, it must trap their body heat and keep the cold out. They must not feel the cold on their feet. I know he was glad for the treat!
Yes, very cold at -21. Thankfully those little birds can stay warm by fluffing their feathers. So glad you are giving them something to eat. Beautiful image - nice light.
Don't know how they keep warm, either. When I feed birds by hand, I take my mittens off so they have a warm place to land. It always surprises me that their little feet actually feel warmer than my hand does!
hmmm....an idea. maybe i should propped a piece of meat in my balcony to lure that hawk again. there's a hawk that's probablly been terrorizing the pigeons around my building. it bumped on my window one morning, limped on the balcony floor, but by the time i was ready to take a photo, the bugger flew off. another time it perched for a few seconds on the balcony railing, but the darn pigeons chased him away. great shot on this, kathy.
