The Wawel Hill is to Krakow what the Acropolis was to ancient Athens or the Capitoline Hill to Rome. The towering Wawel Royal Castle overlooking the banks of the Vistula has been the seat of secular and ecclesiastical power since the early Middle Ages. Together it is said that they constitute the most historically and culturally important site in Poland.
Beautiful night time scene. The architecture of this castle is very similar to many of the historical buildings and castles I've seen over this weekend in Copenhagen.
Wow, a fabulous night shot of this historic part of the city. Krakow is best known for Pope John Paul II who stole the heart of all the world irrespective of religion. Fav.
@rensala Google the children's book, The Trumpeter of Krakow. It tells the story of his bravery in warning the community of an attack. An arrow pierced him during the warning on his trumpet, so today when the Trumpeter plays, the piece stops abruptly. My friends and I heard him twice when we were visiting about a decade ago.
