“Useless Bodies?” is huge exhibition by the artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset and displayed in four enormous gallery spaces and the courtyard of the Milan Fondazione Prada Museum. I was bowled over by its scope, creativity, and depth of feeling. It explores the present condition of the body in the post-industrial age in which it seems that our physical presence is losing its centrality or is even completely superfluous. The artists say that this shift impacts every aspect of our lives: from our working conditions, to our health, our interpersonal relationships, and the way we retain information and each aspect is explored in the four galleries. The exhibition also focuses on how we physically adapt to a world increasingly based on two-dimensional imagery, not least in the light of the current pandemic.
Not to be missed if you are in Milan. It’s hard to do it justice visually even in collage form. https://www.fondazioneprada.org/project/useless-bodies/?lang=en
