This wonderful old cinema was opened in 1914 just after the start of WW1 and in fact was used to broadcast news of the war to the people of Leeds. It's managed to keep going continuously ever since and even better to remain an independent cinema (albeit owned by the City council). They have late night specials at the weekend and me and my friends used to go regular to the Quid Nights back in the late 80s/early 90s which were every Tuesday and Thursday. We quite often went both nights if that weeks film was good. It's the sort of place that you can take a couple of beers in too and sit back and enjoy the film. http://www.hydeparkpicturehouse.co.uk/history.php
I love these old building. They have so much character and charm. Drinking inside, not in our theaters. Although we have one near that has a bar and snack menu. Strange as we are not accustomed to that and minors cannot go inside. So, not good for those under 21.
Looks like a wonderful place to have locally - good idea on the sepia - you just need to airbrush out the modern cars now and have a few vintage bangers and horse and carts trundling up the street.
Fabulous photo and processing - great place!! I went in there a few times 20 years ago as my friend lived on Brudenell Rd. I think it was one of the last places that banned smoking too! Great vibe there, great its still open.
It really is! Ed (my partner) bought his first house just off Brudenell too, and we figured we must've been at the same pubs/gigs too - I bet you were there as well!
