...Well, Yesterday anyway, that Maggie Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister.
November 22nd 1991, and we all woke up the morning after Gord's (@gords) birthday to the news that Maggie had gone. It was a massive day, she had been in power since I was 13, I was now 25. We'd had the Falklands, the miners, the 'end of society' and suddenly, now it felt like a new dawn. Of course it wasn't really like that but ask most people I know and a lot of random strangers who were in Britain in the 80s and they'll say this was a great day! We all donned a hat or some headgear (note Zigs, the guy who got me started on here, with his lightbulb) and headed down to the pub to celebrate. I think I took this on a self-timer but my memory is hazy. I'm right in front doing a Tommy Cooper in a green cardigan left over from c86 days and Gords is in the t-shirt on the left
Oh my god, and the Poll Tax, how could I forget that!
@fueast Now why did you get "diss" from that? I love C86 and I loved that Cardigan (using capital C's now for emphasis). On a similar note, I've heard an Aussie band called The Twerps who have a sound that wouldn't sound out of place on C86...
@fueast Yeah, I'm feeling both, mostly just the old though! Now are we organising a 365 Xmas Leeds sesh on the 3rd? It's been mentioned since the other day but I think someome needs to take the bull by the horns so to speak!
@rich57 Well I'm up for it. In fact that reminds me to get my ticket for the Beat. I think you should take the bull being the most senior 365er and all.
haha... I remember that day too... I was 10 when she became PM and in junior school, 21, had left home and living in London when she left..!! Truly a Thatcherite child :-)...
PS... was a Community Charge Recovery Officer for a while :-).... Note not Poll Tax lol...
Such a cute pic!
And it was tommy cooper u were doing was it? I always thought it was some sort of flamboyant skate move!!
I remember this day too - was in Cardiff and had an impromptu party in our house too.
@rich57 or Reagan over here in the states just as bad IMHO. Am loving the 80's group shot. Easy as pie to pick you out of the crowd. You haven't changed a bit

Suppose you'll unfollow now :-)
