I love this, such a simple shot and it says so much. I wonder how long they sat there before someone took them upstairs.
My husband puts things by our family room door which are on their way out to the garage and they sit there for days sometimes because when he does go out there somehow he doesn't see them.

I like your title! Great idea and capture. I might try photographing my red boots for the b&w! (Ray comes in from the ramble and puts his socks on the bottom of the stairs to go up. right by the front door. Luckily we don't have many callers!!)
