I don't normally post old photo's but I thought I had lost these last year when I had a hard drive failure and I couldn't find them on my cloud back up. I was having a tidy up on my other drive and found them in a separate folder :) The vulcan was one of the reasons I got into photography as I wanted some images of it before it was grounded at the end of 2015 I must have a couple of 100 shots but these are 4 of my favourites.
Absolutely fabulous, my favourite, favourite aircraft. This aircraft was the first I experienced when I 'married' the RAF. David's first posting after we were married was to RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire and they had Vulcans there then. We couldn't put any ornaments etc on our window sills because the vibration from the aircraft taking off made them drop to the floor.
No wonder I used to have loose fillings in my teeth, ha ha.
A huge fav for this amazing aircraft.
David's last encounter with this aircraft was during the Falklands war in 1982.
Glad you found them ! My husbands uncle worked with these at RAF Scampton . We lived there too for a while, but after the Vulcan had departed ! There were only the Red Arrows then.
Just looove that plane! Like you I managed to delete the best pics I took of it's last flight down here - it was flanked by two Sea Vixon's - such a pity to lose that one!
@onewing They certainly were noisy! I remember watching this one display at RAF Waddington and it set all the car alarms off. Its a shame there are none left flying now but we did get an extra 7 years out of XH558 which seemed unlikely when the RAF grounded it in the early 90's. There's a book about the Falkland's raid called Vulcan 607 its a good read and shows what an amazing feat it was to get one Vulcan all the way from Ascension Island to Port Stanley. The pilot Martin Withers was flying XH558 in some of these shots.
@carole_sandford Must have been quite cool to live where the Reds are based. Since RAF Cottesmore close we don't really get any planes around here although the Vulcan used to cross Rutland quite regularly on its way down from Doncaster.
@alfsson Thanks Paul I remember going to Waddington in the late 70's when they were based there they scramble 7 in one go! Not something you forget in a hurry.
