A newly spotted local architectural find - The St. Louis Abbey. It is on the grounds of the Priory School. There are 23 Benedictine monks living in a monastery on the grounds today. I believe the founding monks were dispatched from an abbey in North Yorkshire, England.
This building was was designed by Gyo Obata of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK) and was completed in 1962. It has that vibe, doesn't it? Apparently, it was one of HOK's first "name making" projects, although today HOK is a very large architectural firm.
Anyway - it was nice to have some "architecture photo therapy" today. :) I have some interior shots, but they are difficult to understand without seeing the exterior design first.
