I started my project three years ago, when one of my parents entered a skilled nursing unit, continuing a twenty year long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Still there, still visiting. :-/
Staff put some autumn decorations up, to give a little cheer to the residents. One scarecrow, for every year, so far. Black and white seemed about right. Besides, you can see the smiles better that way.
This project has been incredibly helpful to me, over these three years, by the way.
Thanks for taking time to visit. Thanks, too, for your kind and positive response to my magical moth photo from yesterday. Much appreciated.
10/1/2020: Finished year 7 (!), with continuing gratitude towards this amazing community. Based in St. Louis, MO. Regular worker-bee and self-taught photography dilettante....
That's a tough one, Rosie... That "cycle of life" catches up with all of us, probably more than once in our lifetimes... It's so good to have "a useful distraction" that nurtures us as we nurture others, and you certainly have a community of friends here who sincerely care about you... ♥
Congratulations, Rosie. I got my first DSLR the year I put my mother in a nursing home, but I didn't really get to use it until 2 years later when I retired.
Oh Rosie, that's a very tough thing to cope with. so sorry. I have two friends with Parkinson's so I have some idea of what your mother's dealing with. I totally agree with you about photography and 365 being a great place to escape the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
I'm sorry to hear about your parent Rosie. I expect it is very difficult to cope with on occasions so it is good that you have the release of photography and 365.
I joined a couple of years after my dh passed and the project got me out of the house and traveling the roads again. People for the most part care and you begin to see the world for the beautiful place it is.
A post I can understand. My mum has not been battling as long as your parent has, and she is fighting a different demon, but I certainly understand your feelings and how photography is a release. A sweet shot and as Taffy says b&w suits it well!
