There is a total eclipse coming on August 21st, scheduled to pass very nearby. Of course, I ordered glasses suitable for viewing this rare event. Here they are, with the closest thing I could find to an eclipse, strategically placed in the lenses.

You are so clever! Love this -- and can't wait to see your eclipse shot (if you are able to take one). I don't think the island is good for this, and may be in Chicago for it...hoping one of these places will work!
Fun. We're just out of the path of totality. Lots of excitement around here, though. Just saw a segment on the news re photographing the eclipse. You'll need a special filter, I guess...
Fun capture for the upcoming eclipse! Am I correct in thinking that St. Louis is in the path of totality? @taffy they are having a viewing event and giving out free glasses at the Planetarium, and I believe you can get glasses at some of the libraries here in Chicago. South of Carbondale is in the path of totality, here in Chicago about 87% of the sun will disappear.
@ukandie1 Actually, there are lots of places nearby for me... St. Louis is a tiny bit too far north for full totality. I think I'm going to drive down to De Soto, MO. It's pretty close and the public library opening up the facilities to crazed eclipse hunters. If you want to drive to St. Genevieve, a Mississippi River town, there are lots of wineries and town events to celebrate, but that is more "party" than I am up for.
@ukandie1 I may be in Chicago around that time if it turns out that we have to be there for the renovation stuff. So many details still to deal with. I'll keep you posted. Where are you going to go to watch it? Are you going down toward St. Louis??
@taffy I am staying in Chicago, Tim is working and having just about got my kids out the door, I now have the responsibility of Finn..lol! Let me know if you are around and about (I think that is also the same time as the Air and Water show) but if things are too hectic, don't stress we will catch up in the fall for sure :)
I remember seeing a total eclipse as a child. My dad set up an easel with a big board and a hole in it so we watched it happening on the ground. Dad warned us not to look up at it. That's what I remember anyway. Love your photo ... I need to research the glasses and what I'll need for the front of my lens for the camera if I decide to photograph it. I might just enjoy seeing everyone elses captures.
