I am having a small fixation on the pet rats, because they are challenging to photograph. Practice, practice. The critters are devilishly fast and the light is dark in my child's room, so I am working with a flash and a small focus point. I have recently configured my camera to enable back-button focus, which I am liking more than I thought I would.
Bonus - the bars give me some lines to work with. This one is grooming his paw, rather sternly.
Don't worry... it's not all inside. The ratties got to run around outside the bars (in a confined area - I am not that generous) for a while this evening. :)

amazing detail on that paw! and that stare. and those whiskers. wonderfully done. oohhh i have been meaning to try out back button focus for so long. maybe again when i'm on holiday next week. you don't have a total idiot's guide you could point me to by any chance?
Great DoF and details. I as well have recently set my camera to back-button focus, takes some getting used to (still sometimes pressing the shutter and thinking "why is the focus not working")
I don't know how you manage to make this (admittedly my wimpiness) scary creatures look so cute, but you have! I almost (but not really) feel sad that it's stuck in a cage. You are a better mom than I would ever be!
