Ursula & her chicks by rosiekind

Ursula & her chicks

This is my friend Daniel's hen Ursula who has been a very kind broody bantum hen and has sat on someone else's eggs in order to raise 6 little chicks for one of Daniel's other friends. It was difficult getting a picture as the chicks were only 6 hours old and Daniel didn't want me to disturb her too much and he had got the chicks out from under her for me to photograph. They were in a shed without much room so I couldn't get into a decent position to take the pic which is why it's not very good but I thought the chicks were lovely. I've been watching Spring Watch on TV and seeing the chicks for all sorts of birds has been lovely. I've recorded the programs so haven't watched them all yet but am looking forward to seeing how they are all doing
great shot Rosie fantastic nature photo Rosie. Gerry.

I think you've captured it just right - fluffy chicks in the foreground and enough light to highlight the mother hen.

wonderful photo under difficult conditions. we can see all the down on the chicks and the mother giving you a nasty look! aren't they sweet looking with all their variations in color?
