Since returning from holiday we seem to be having a lot of problems with sick birds in the garden. I can't help wondering what's been going on while we have been away. First of all I took some pics of a chaffinch on the bird bath and got up so close to him that I actually picked him up but then he flew away on my roof and just sat there. Then 10 minutes later this little fellow (who actually looks better than the first one) was sitting on the garden seat. Yesterday we had a young blackbird sitting on the bird bath and he just sat there for ages and did this twice but I haven't seen him since. Steve came in from the garden to say that he had picked up a young greenfinch from the ground and he was dead. I can't help wondering whether there is some sort of poison that is affecting these birds - it could be something like weedkiller left about by someone or slug pellets which the young birds may have been tempted by slugs affected by them. I am going to disinfect all my feeders and the bird table and see whether that makes a difference because it grieves me to see so many birds of different species being affected in this way. I will also ring the RSPB. I will probably post a pic of the bird I picked up in my Even More album for another day as I already have pics I want to post today. I have now posted it in the album for 17 September. If anyone knows anything about what could be wrong, please let me know.
@sunnygreenwood@carolmw@busylady@sabanford I've disinfected all the feeders just in case but I haven't seen the 2 poorly birds since. I have seen plenty of fit looking birds so hopefully, they will all be alright now
