Little Deer by rosiekind

Little Deer

I walked down Wood Lane this morning because I had to work 12 - 4pm today and I came across this little fellow. Does anyone know what kind of deer he/she is? Whatever type I think it's lovely and I'm going to see whether I can buy some apples for him because he was shouting at me as I stood there and I can't help thinking that he might be hungry. Good news about the chestnut mare, they have been to see her because I saw the tyre marks leading to her field. She was standing in the field with a rug on
Hi Rosie, lovely capture - lucky you. It is a roe deer with the black nose and white chin patch. Just beautfiful

@streetlyend Oh thanks Lucy. I knew someone on 365 would know. He's just so sweet and I was so pleased to get some shots of him

Oh, what a beauty. Great capture Rosie.

Muntjac ... I think. Shy (though can be aggressive if cornered) deer that bark like dogs! at night.

Just read it's a Roe deer... goes to show I have no idea about wildlife! Sorry!

What a lovely capture of this beautiful fellow. They're usually so timid.

great capture, the hay in the winter apples wouldn't be eaten. Good news about the chestnut mare, I'm so glad you're keeping an eye on her

@caddick I didn't think it was a muntjac as it was too big so I think I'll go with Lucy's suggestion but usually it is muntjacs that we see round here

@khirsch Thanks Karin. I'm not sure what you mean by the hay in the winter apples??
January 25th, 2013
@rosiekind sorry Rosie. Was doing three things at a time, ment to say they eat hay but apples aren't that bad. But most likely they find something in the forest such as branches of very small trees and bark

A super find,he's a lovely creature!!
January 25th, 2013
@caddick They look very similar, its just the white patch that makes me think Roe but you could be right. Someone else might be more sure.

Another of your amazing wild life shots, Rosie. Love it!
January 25th, 2013
fantastic! what a great shot!
January 25th, 2013
@khirsch We googled at work to see what they could eat and came up with apples as a supplement in these difficult times
January 25th, 2013
@rosiekind I googled as well and found the apples too. Wonder if it was alone since there is always a group.
You seem to be the person for spotting homeless and left alone animals
Great capture anyway.

Lovely capture Rosie..

Had no idea what it was but what a lucky find for you and such a clear capture. I have compared some pics on some websites and it does look more like a muntjac than a roe (especially the dark Y shape on it's face and smaller ears).

What a gorgeous close up shot. I love all the detail you captured. FAV Are you shooting in Auto or Manual? I would love to be able to capture the clarity of the foreground and what I am taking photos of as you have here. Thank you.

@caddick LOL - I thought muntjac as well but read Lucy's post before I embarrassed myself! Beautiful close shot.

@judithg leave the 'embarrassment' to the professionals
January 26th, 2013
Beautiful capture - I like the way you have caught it amongst the twigs & branches

@darsphotos I think I was shooting in aperture priority but I will check. I rarely shoot in auto
January 27th, 2013
@darsphotos I've just checked and it was aperture priority. I was on maximum zoom 360mm and aperture f5.9
January 27th, 2013
@rosiekind Thank you, Rosie. I will have to start using manual settings and practice.
