Pretty blossom. My blackthorn blossom turned out to be wild cherryblossom. A friend spotted it because of the branch - no nasty thorns!

Blackthorn winter is the name given to the cold snap that frequently follows warm spring evenings that hasten the blackthorn into bloom - in other words - I think we are about to have a cold snap. Lovely to see this wild plum in bloom and beautifully captured

@quietpurplehaze It looks like wild plum according to Lucy. I never have been very good identifying blossom!

@rosiekind actually when I say wild plum it is the hedge that sloes grow on (same family)

Great shot, the blackthorn is the earliest tree to be in flower, definately a sign of spring, even if more winter is the forecast for next week

I'm totally confused now as Lucy says further down that this the tree that sloes grow on and that is definitely blackthorn! it's lovely anyway!!
