Hibiscus by rosiekind

Hibiscus

It was difficult deciding which flowers to post today as they are looking especially nice in my garden. This hibiscus we bought a few years ago and had it in the conservatory but it didn't do very well and became all leggy. Anyway, we thought we had nothing to lose by putting it outside the front door and it has rewarded us with the first of (I hope) many flowers which has opened today in the sunshine. I just wish they would grow as profusely as they do in Spain because they are such lovely flowers.

It is very hot so I decided not to go for a walk and I've done three quarters of an hour just dead heading the roses, etc. in the garden. It will be watering later and I must go and fill the bird baths up as they are getting low again and the birds do like to have a bath as well as a drink.

Talking of gardens, today I visited an 83yr old lady and I couldn't believe what she told me. A "lady gardener" (I don't agree with that description) was going to charge £140 to tidy up a garden which measures about 12ft x 10ft. It is scandalous! Anyway, she is in a sheltered accommodation bungalow and the company who own it provide free gardening to people who cannot do the garden themselves especially if it is overgrown. I have referred her to them and they are going to arrange to send someone round who will do it for free. I call that a result as the "lady gardener" didn't turn up this morning when she was supposed to and I suspect she has set herself up on a cash only basis and will not want to pay tax etc. and I suspect she is targeting elderly people. I have referred the matter to Trading Standards so hopefully it will prevent someone else being taken for a ride.

Thank you for your kind comments and Favs - it is always much appreciated.
Great shot, Fav
And well done for helping the elderly lady with her garden issues. There are so many of these scandalous so called workmen/women about targeting vulnerable people.
I worked for Age UK for a few years & some of the stories I heard then made my blood boil !!!

A gorgeous colour. I hope this will be the first of many. I'm glad you were able to help prevent someone from being ripped off. Some folks have no scruples whatsoever.

A lovely colour and such a superb photo. I cut my hibiscus down this year and I'm not sure it's going to flower! What a lovely story about your elderly friend.

Beautiful against black. So glad you stepped in and did what needed to be done to help that woman - unfortunately, so many talk about what should be done but fail to follow up. Good for you! Makes me feel good.
