This is new in a field in Wood Lane. I haven't seen it before but it's to stop the birds eating the farmers crops. The trouble is the birds are desperate for food but they soon get used to bird scarers because the other ones that are in the fields don't seem to deter them. There must have been about 100 rooks in a field not too far away from this scarer! I just thought it made a nice bright capture as it was flying about in the wind which was bitterly cold so I only stayed out for about half an hour. Just as well really because I promised Steve I would only be gone for that length of time so that I could help him with the logging for the fire!
Superb shot! It looks like a fabulous kite - one of those Japanese fighting kites! Our bird scarers take the form of black hawk shapes, the birds take no notice of them now but Bertie hates them, realises they are not real but they disturb him and he is a nightmare as we go past them, barking hysterically at them, acting as a bird-scarer himself!
Well spotted. I have seen few in recent weeks. One of them was in the shape of a bird of prey, and was swooping so realistically that it fooled me at first sight!
