Getting a signal?

This rook flew down on this TV aerial and he just looked as if he was waiting for a signal. Note his huge beak - does it look a bit strange to you? I know rooks have larger beaks than crows but It just looks as though he has a growth on it. He does look a bit tatty and he was on his own which is unusual for a rook as you usually see them in a crowd
