After I got back from lunch, I made some blueberry muffins as it had been raining. Then the sun came out so I decided to go for a quick walk along Wood Lane. I only got a little way and it started to rain again although the sun was out so I started to turn back. Then it stopped raining so I continued my walk. I'm so glad I did because as I got level with Miller's field, something brown flew out of the grass and landed in the tree right in front of me! I told myself to move my camera slowly and it worked because he stood and looked at me before taking off. I got 2 shots of him but this was the best one and I thought all my birthdays and Christmases had come in one! I was so excited and so delighted to get this shot and I wouldn't have been happier if I had won a million pounds on the lottery! I should imagine this fellow has a nest somewhere because they are not usually out and about in the daytime. I have only ever seen one in the wild before (i.e. not in a bird of prey centre) but I didn't get particularly good shots of that one so I was extremely pleased to get this.
Fabulous find and a wonderful shot, they are amazing birds and you don't often get nice long views like this.
I do have a question though, I was wondering how large he was ?
It's just that he looks much more like a Little Owl, which do fly daytime as well as nights, than a juvenile Tawny Owl.
Fabulous! It looks like what we call a Pygmy Owl over here.
I just looked online and it shows the Tawny Owl with a distinct facial disk...this does look more like a Little Owl....either way it's a great find and photo! Fav
