I keep wondering whether I am muddling up siskins and female greenfinches. If you think this is a greenfinch, please do let me know.

Lovely shot Rosie, it is a young Greenfinch. Your Siskins are noticeable smaller and also juvenile and adult tend to have a black and white colouring on the wings, which varies with the age and sex of the bird.
