Mr & Mrs Chaffinch

Both feeding together. Some of the chaffinches have got tumble foot (or bumble foot - I can't remember which) and this is a disease that affects their feet and is really untreatable unless you can catch them. It sadly results in them losing their feet.
This infection is much more likely to occur in captive animals than in those in the wild since it is caused by inappropiate perching or perching too long. Too bad, wish you could catch them

Oh that's horrible. ( Especially as we have just discovered Jinks has a 3rd injury to the same paw - at least we can go to the vet & get antibiotics etc etc.) Like the shot!

I see very few finches of any kind now... Great capture.

@greyfeather I'm glad my cockatoo hasn't got it!

@quietpurplehaze Yes its very hard to help wild birds when they are sick as the vets often don't know what to do with them anyway

@moominmomma We have goldfinches, greenfinches as well as chaffinches coming although the greenfinches have tailed off a bit at the moment (forgive the pun)

Come to think, I have seen one-legged birds. I wonder if they once had the foot problem too. Like your shot, though!
