Great crested newt

This little fellow was rescued from the drain at work this morning. We have a family of these |(which are protected species) and when the car park was made at the back of our office, the lads (well they seem like lads to me) had to move them very carefully to ensure that they continued to thrive. You can see from Cliff's hands that these little newts are not very big. I was told by Richard (who is an official identifier) that this is a female. I hope she survives back with her mates.
Interesting capture..... I watched a tv programme about these a few months ago, conservationists go to great lengths to protect them...... hope this one survives.

Very strange time of the year to see one of these, they should really be hibernating.

The newts are lucky that they have people like you around to look after them.
