I quickly picked some of these on Saturday and made a nice apple and blackberry crumble and we had it for our pudding yesterday. The apples had been picked when I visited Roxton recently as they were definitely not eating apples and had to be cooked with sugar to take away their bitter taste. The blackberries definitely perked the flavour up and neither apples or blackberries cost me a 1p, just some of my time picking them.
This reminds me of that gorgeous photo shown last night on Countryfile, did you see it Rosie, one of the finalists in the Calender completion. It was gorgeous as this is but you are missing a field mouse.
You have caught them at all their different stages of development here. I have been picking too, but the last lot were so full of fruit fly grubs that I rather lost my appetite for them this morning at breakfast. Cant beat blackberry and apple crumble though!
