John Bunyan by rosiekind

John Bunyan

Bedford is famous for having John Bunyan who wrote Pilgrim's Progress while a prisoner in Bedford Gaol so I had to take a shot of him as we walked past.

The reason for his Imprisonment - the religious tolerance which had allowed Bunyan the freedom to preach became curtailed with the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. The members of the Bedford Meeting were no longer able to meet in St John's church, which they had been sharing with the Anglican congregation. Very different from today's freedoms!
Lovely detail, perspective and framing Rosie:)

We grew up on that book - quite frightening as a child but will never forget it!

Nice shot and interesting information. My great great great grandfather followed in John Bunyan's footsteps and spent 3 months in Bedford Gaol in the 1850s, apparently for poaching rabbits. He lived in Shefford.
