Mesmerising is not a word that you would necessarily associate with Croydon! This mural is by Ben Eine, who blends street art with typography, and his works have been commissioned around the world. David Cameron gave one of his paintings to Barack Obama as a state gift in 2010. This work appears on Green Dragon House, a former office block now converted into housing. Ben Eine says he chose the word mesmerising because he always liked it, but I wonder if he knew that Green Dragon House has a connection with the hypnotist Derren Brown? There used to be a record store at the front of the building called That's Entertainment, that Derren Brown used to visit as a youth (and steal from, according to his autobiography).
Nice fonts, a bit 'Yellow Submarine' but nice and colourful against that stark brick wall. Ahh yes, where have all the record shops gone? Many a Saturday afternoon was spent in the listening booths ....
