"Well-behaved women seldom make history"

This is a shot of Brompton Cemetery that I took in 2007. I wish I had a better photo, but the grave of Emmeline Pankhurst, one of the leaders of the women's suffrage movement, is on the left next to the tree.

6 February marks one hundred years since the Representation of the People Act 1918 first gave women in the UK the right to vote, although the Act was limited to women over the age of 30 who met certain property qualifications.

It is hard to comprehend the lengths campaigners went to, how much they risked, and the brutality they faced in order to gain the vote; we owe them so much.
