Sir John Soane redesigned his house by adding domes, glass panels and mirrors. He also filled it with art and classical relics. The basement was remodelled to resemble a Roman catacomb, with a skylight over the burial chamber. The crypt contains the sarcophagus of the Egyptian King Seti (1303-1290 BC) and a wooden mummy case.
