Penrhyn Castle

This is Penrhyn Castle, which is near Bangor in North Wales. It is a National Trust property, and featured in the HBO series Watchmen as the home of Jeremy Irons' character Adrian Veidt.

Penrhyn Castle was owned by the Pennant family who who achieved their wealth through the transatlantic slave trade, and went on to own the biggest slate mine in North Wales.

While the National Trust has received criticism from certain quarters for exploring their properties' links to colonialism and slavery, I really appreciate that they provide this information. Here is a link to their information on Penrhyn's owners;
