An amazing capture! I'm checking out your settings -- I am preparing for the lunar eclipse (as I am sure you are!) and I had planned to do ISO 200 f/4 but your ISO is really high so that allowed for a faster speed. Is that how you attribute your capture of the good texture of the surface of the moon?
@jyokota yes! I also reduced noise in photoshop just a bit to remove any graininess, although there wasn't that much of it to begin with. I typically do 800 or 1000 for ISOs of the moon with cloud cover, and I would definitely recommend using a similar ISO for the lunar eclipse. But you don't want to go much higher than 1000, or else the graininess will be too noticeable and hard to fix.
@jyokota keep in mind that if you do plan to use a low ISO, you will need to add some extra time to the exposure, which in return might cause the moon to be blurry due to the movement. I try to always do as short of an exposure/shutter speed as possible to avoid any motion blur.
@ryanjasonphotography -- thanks for the tip. I tried doing a few at 1000 and even as high as 1600 the night before in practicing but on THE lunar eclipse night, there was too much cloud cover and it looked hopeless and I went to bed. Then it cleared up and I missed it !!!!! After a week of planning . . .
