Went last night to see a production of Hamlet at the 'New Vic Theatre' (which is a theatre in the round) in Newcastle Under Lyme. It was performed by a very good Northern company "Northern Broadsides" and was set in the jazz era of the forties with Russian-type miliary uniforms, tailored suits and the like. There was quite a bit of music in the evening. Ophelia sang a smokey valentine song in the beginning which set the mood. In fact, most of the company doubled up in some musical way, playing instruments, sax, piano, cello and even Hamlet plucked on the double bass during one scene (the play within a play). Which was quite effective as he stopped his playing to make his commentary assides, then took up the beat again.
It was fast moving, and everyone was pretty good in their roles. All in all, a production worth seeing.
Hey, a great angle for this shot, and I'm sure the show was wonderful. Glad to see you are giving the project a try. I think you will enjoy this as well.
