Aka - Where's the ' auto moon setting' when you really really need it.
Okay, so everyone, old uncle Tom Cobley 'n' all (old Northern song - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Tom_Cobley) have been taking moon shots, so I thought I'd give it a try too. First, I tried to zoom in on it outside, but it wouldn't focus ::bah!:: (it pretty much just looked like an orange blob in the sky. In fact, I could've lobbed up a wrinkled orange into the air and achieved an uncannily similar result) Then I thought I'd take a shot of the moon behind the trees which was somewhat interesting (top right photo), but not exactly what I was after having seen some of the great, luminous shots here at 365.
I pretty much gave up on it and went back into the house and then an hour or so later, I was looking at the moon through the window and noticed that it was reflected in the glass. The camera would focus on that (the grey moon, bottom right photo) and by default focused on the moon also! To be honest, I was happy to get 'any' shot of the moon, but I'm quite pleased with the way I managed to get the craters to show up. Yay! Okay, just another moon shot, Matt, calm down ;)
Btw, if anyone has some good tips on taking celestial orb shots, please share :)
Nb. If you've never heard "Widecome fair" which features the line 'uncle Tom Cobley and all' umm here it is in all its folksy glory - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KFBpTWDh_s Used to sing this as a kid as a group song, remembering all the names & it used to make everyone laugh as most people couldn't remember all of them and sang mhhhrrrhh apart from 'Tom Cobley' at the end (nice memory and something I haven't thought about in years)
